Liberals split border measures into two bills

The Liberal government introduced a second border security bill that contains several measures from a bill tabled in June, hoping it will have support to pass quickly. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree says the government will still pursue passage of the first bill, which proposes giving authorities new powers to search mail and access personal information, which opposition parties have not supported. (Oct. 8, 2025)
