The family of a Muslim employee of a Markham, Ont., hotel who was the target of an alleged hate-motivated assault last month, said the attack has left them heartbroken and fearful as the National Council of Canadian Muslim is warning of a sharp increase in hate-crime against the community. The wife of the victim said she is speaking out because she doesn’t want another family to go through the “nightmare” they have experienced. York Regional Police have said they are investigating the assault as hate-motivated and a suspect has been arrested in the case. (Oct. 9, 2025)
