Belgian farmers sprayed manure towards police in a protest ahead of a meeting of 27 EU agriculture ministers who were planning to discuss the crisis in the sector. The police responded by using water cannon and tear gas. Dozens of tractors sealed off streets close to European Union headquarters as farmers protested anything from what they see as excessive red tape to increased environmental measures, cheap imports and unfair trading practices.
