Solar eclipse a rare treat for stargazers

Stargazers got an early morning treat Thursday.
Parts of North America and Europe got to see a partial eclipse of the sun.
It was visible across the northern hemisphere.
This happens when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.
The moon's shadow is then cast on the Earth.
This makes the sun appear crescent shaped as the moon passes by.
Toronto got a spectacular early sunrise partial eclipse.

The eclipse over the statue of Our Lady, Star Of The Sea in Dublin.
